Our friends in Catalonia
Last week it was time to load our much-loved Trainera boat onto a trailer and head for Portsmouth to take the Santander ferry and return her to the Basque country. The ‘Tknika’ was loaned to us by a famous ocean rowing club in the town of Orio. They have been following the exploits of our crew over the summer and have enjoyed seeing the boat break two records and establish a third.
Now my Catalan is not great. Nor my Spanish for that matter, but we were able to express our heart-felt thanks to them for their generosity in lending us the boat. Happily she was returned in tact.
The trainera certainly proved to be an awesomely competitive boat, coping with the choppier waters easily. It’s origins in coastal rowing certainly helped us to achieve good speeds even in more difficult conditions.
